Adam,

I just want to let you know that you’ve inspired us all, not just in our own home but my workplace. My entire ExxonMobil team is so incredibly proud of you. They’re joking that now I can return back to my normal work schedule instead of rushing home to make sure there was a hot and fresh home made meal for you after your long and insane, crazy workouts.

Adam: “No big deal. I just ran a half marathon on a Tuesday afternoon”.

You’re my Superman (w/o the m)! Can’t wait to celebrate with you! I look forward to not having to train for hours with you just to have quality time. :)

P.S. I think we’re overdue for date night (give or take 40). I’m taking you to a celebratory concert on Saturday.

I could wish you good luck but then again you don't need any. You've prepared well and I know that your commitment, competitiveness and fighting spirit will be driving you to success and these have nothing to do with luck.
Enjoy the experience Christine. See you when you get back.

Best of luck to all embarking on this year's challenge.

You have all put in an immense amount of training and effort over the last 12 months; the week in the desert is the reward for all of that!

There will be some (several) tough moments, and lots of pain in the legs by the end of the week, but use the team around you and the stunning scenery to keep pushing on through every day.

Enjoy!!

‘Best of luck to all of you for this year’s InNam challenge! I was trying to think of something motivational to say, but to be honest the desert is all the inspiration you will need - it’s a genuinely breathtaking event from start to finish.

A couple of last bits of practical advice from a grizzled veteran of InNam 17...

1) Look after your feet - running in the heat is hard enough as it is, so don’t make it any harder by running on blisters. Twinskin socks, Compeed, Vaseline... whatever you feel comfortable with will be well worth the investment, trust me!

2) If you feel like you’re struggling at any point, take it easy and go as slow as you need. There’s no prizes for being the first to the rest stops, and if the extra couple of minutes it takes is enough to let your heart rate tick down, you’ll be in a lot better shape come the end of the day.

Apart from that just enjoy yourselves. From what I’ve seen on Strava you’re all super prepared, so just go out there and smash it!’

Thanks,

Adam

Hey Dream Team….

Just a few more days before you travel to the unknown…..

I am super excited for you all, as this trip is amazing and is highly regarded as a world class graduate programme. Opportunities like this do not come around too often in one’s lifetime, Jim and the INEOS Board have provided you with a challenge that no other company offers, so make the most of each day.

Every one of you have prepared so well over the last nine months. You should take a look back at some of the earlier posts on the Graduate WhatsApp group to see the improvements made in your running and cycling activities. Lanzarote was a great challenge for everyone back in November and completing your own major marathon should provide you with real confidence to complete every day in Namibia. The skeleton coast is not to be taken lightly and everyone will have off-days but you have to dig deep when it gets tough and push on to the finish line – the sense of achievement is amazing and use your inner strength to fight the wind, heat and sand.

I am disappointed not to be joining you in the desert but I know you are in good hands with Phill, Gregg, Sophie and the Namibia Crew. Each night is super fun and the camaraderie will be special (even with Phill & Greggs South African banter). The IN NAM adventure is not a race so please help each other, every step or wheel turned. We want every graduate to complete the full 300km + distance this year and working together, day and night is key to a winning formula. Lets make IN NAM 19 the best….

Watch out for the Springbok, Black Rhino and Elephants along the way.

I look forward to following the blog and catching up with you all afterwards.

Best regards,

John
